Building a home shaped by the people of the South Shore.
At Shoreham, community is built every day, alongside the residents, families, volunteers, and partners who shape life here.
Volunteers continue to play an essential role, contributing through recreation programs, social visits, musical entertainment, gardening, and special events. This year, we said goodbye to a particularly beloved pair: Frances and her pet therapy dog Molly, who retired after years of bringing comfort and companionship to countless residents. Their gentle presence quietly defined what good volunteering looks like.
The Resident Council and Family Council continue to give residents and their families a meaningful voice in decisions that shape the home. Social Worker Bree Hunter’s work supporting the Family Council in particular helps ensure families feel heard, informed, and supported throughout their journey at Shoreham.
In June 2025, Shoreham hosted its first-ever Community Wellness Fair, welcoming residents, families, staff, healthcare partners, and community members for a day focused on health, wellness, and connection. The event brought together local vendors, healthcare professionals, and wellness organizations, and reflected Shoreham’s commitment to supporting not only those who live here, but the broader South Shore community.
Community generosity took many forms this year. The annual Swing for Shoreham charity golf tournament raised $20,000 in support of resident programs and experiences. The Independent’s Mother’s Day flower donation brought colour and joy to spaces throughout the building. Federal and provincial grant funding also supported additional recreation and LTCA roles that helped expand opportunities for engagement and one-on-one support across the home.
This year also brought recognition for the people who make Shoreham what it is. In October 2025, we celebrated Years of Service milestones for 21 team members spanning five to forty years of dedication, alongside the Northwood and Shoreham Safety and Quality Award recipients, including Shoreham’s Kim Croft (Quality Improvement) and Gaye Ernst (Safety Excellence).
