This past year reminded us what it truly means to be part of a community.
At Shoreham, we believe care is something we share. Every day, our team supports residents with compassion, dignity, and respect, working alongside families, local partners, and emergency responders to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all.
Through challenges, including emergency response events and infrastructure pressures, our staff and community came together with strength and resilience. These moments reinforced what has always been true: Shoreham is more than a place of care; it is a trusted part of the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
As we continue to improve, grow, and plan for the future, our commitment remains the same: to provide care our community knows and trusts.

Strengthening Care in our Community
Supporting the South Shore through compassionate care and community partnership.
Shoreham Village plays a vital role in the long-term care system on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, providing safe, compassionate, resident-centred care close to home for the individuals and families who depend on us. As demand for long-term care continues to grow across the province, our work helps relieve pressure, supports timely transitions out of hospital, and keeps loved ones connected to the communities they have always called home.
None of this happens in isolation. Our care model is built on interprofessional collaboration and strong partnerships with Nova Scotia Health, Continuing Care, EHS, our regional fire departments, and community organizations across Lunenburg County. These relationships were tested and strengthened over the past year through events such as a smoke evacuation and our response to a large flood. Working alongside local emergency services, our team protected residents and staff and kept care running without interruption.
Our continued participation in the IPAC study and the national CNISP UTI surveillance study also reflects a broader commitment to advancing care practices that benefit not only Shoreham but other long-term care homes across the province and country.
As the population of the South Shore ages and care complexity increases, Shoreham remains committed to growing with the community we serve, investing in our people, our facility, and the partnerships that make safe, responsive, high-quality care possible.
Message from our Board
Greetings on behalf of the Board of Directors,
It is a joy and a privilege to once again report to you our residents, staff, and community. The year in review has been helpful for me to look back and to give thanks in so many ways. I trust our heart of gratitude is shared amongst us all.
Almost a year ago, our summer began with a significant moment of gratitude. Some of you will remember that we had a mass evacuation of our residents a summer Saturday. In the end it wasn’t as bad as we thought yet we learned so much from the experience. I happened to be there and saw our staff caring compassionately for the residents during a stressful time. I saw our neighbours at OHC open their doors to us temporarily with kindness and providing safety. I saw our volunteer fire department spring into action and not only do the assessment part of their work but lift residents to safety. What a day! What a community! What a team!
In the fall we saw community gather in another way as we revived the Swing for Shoreham Golf Tournament. So many local businesses sponsored holes and carts. So many other joined in the fun of playing games and raising over $20,000 for our residents. We were especially grateful to RCS who were not only our platinum sponsors but are our current builders of the new building we will call home next year.
Anyone who is driving down the stretch can see the new building taking shape. Bit by bit and wing by wing we are starting to see our new home grow. As of the time of my writing this note I am happy to report that we are on schedule and are grateful for RCS for their work in building our next chapter.
Our year is coming to an end with more examples of teamwork and care for our residents. Recently, you likely would have noticed some of our staff on strike. In efforts to maintain essential care all kinds of members our team helped to ensure the residents were cared for and we are grateful that an agreement has been reached just in time for summer so residents and staff can enjoy this season of getting outdoors and finding time to renew.
As I conclude, I want to highlight our amazing volunteers. They bring their time and talents to bear to give residents meals, activities, and connection. We, the Board, know of their value and dedication as we too are volunteers at Shoreham. I’m personally grateful for Liz Finney who is stepping aside after serving multiple terms on our Board. We are grateful for her service and heart for Shoreham. If you have a heart for Shoreham like Liz does, and have some time to give to our residents, please drop us a line and we’d be happy to connect you to a rewarding experience.
So these are just the tip of the iceberg of ways I’m grateful to serve alongside you. May the summer be refreshing and may the year ahead be filled with new beginnings.

The need for care in our community continues to grow, and so does our responsibility to meet it.
At Shoreham, we are focused on continuing to strengthen the care we provide: enhancing safety, supporting our team, and improving the environment where residents live and feel at home.
We are making steady progress toward the future, including planning for a new 96-bed long-term care community that will better serve residents, families, and staff for years to come. The next year will bring continued detailed planning, staff preparation, and family engagement as we work toward our target opening in 2027. At the same time, our focus remains on what matters most today: providing consistent, high-quality care that families can rely on.
This work is made possible through the dedication of our staff and the support of our community.
Together, we will continue to ensure Shoreham remains a place of care, connection, and trust for Nova Scotians.
